Nathan's 3rd grade class is finishing up a unit on Pioneers, and the finale was "Pioneer Day," a half day event of pioneer-themed crafts, food and games. The kids dressed up as pioneers too. Nathan says, "Mom, they didn't smile back then," which explains his expression in the first photo. I had fun at school helping the kids make Johnny Cakes (cornmeal pancakes) and homemade butter. The kids had a great time (and the moms had some fun too).
